Pure British Beeswax
All of the pure British beeswax we sell is harvested directly from our own apiaries in Warwickshire as a natural byproduct of our honey extraction. Composed of fresh honeycomb cappings from our seasonal harvests, our wax is gently filtered using fine mechanical mesh to remove hive debris without chemical bleaching agents or paraffin additives.

When our bees produce honey and it is ripe, they seal each hexagonal comb cell with a fresh layer of wax cappings to preserve it. During harvesting, we slice away these wax seals to extract the honey, leaving us with a seasonal harvest of clean cappings wax. Because this wax is produced fresh by the bees to store honey, it retains its natural golden colour and subtle honey aroma.

How Worker Bees Secrete Wax
Beeswax is an extraordinary natural material produced metabolically by the honey bees themselves:
- Wax Glands: Worker bees between roughly 12 and 20 days old develop eight specialised wax glands on the underside of their abdomens.
- Liquid to Flake: Liquid wax is secreted through tiny pores, solidifying upon contact with the hive air into thin, translucent wax scales.
- Building the Comb: Worker bees remove these scales with their legs, manipulate them with their mouthparts, and meticulously construct hexagonal honeycomb cells.
An Energy-Intensive Material

- High Energy Cost: Producing wax requires immense colony resources, with bees commonly estimated to consume roughly 6 to 8 kg of honey for every kilogram of wax secreted.

Why does the colour of the beeswax vary?
Pure beeswax is secreted clear-white by the bees. Its natural golden colour develops as it absorbs pigments from the seasonal nectar, pollen, and propolis gathered by our colonies across Warwickshire. Early-season wax tends to be paler yellow, while summer wax is often a deeper golden amber.
What is the melting point of pure beeswax?
Pure beeswax melts between 62°C and 64°C. When melting beeswax for crafting, always use a double boiler (a heatproof container placed over simmering water) rather than direct heat to prevent scorching, and never leave melting wax unattended.
Do you use chemical bleaches or clarifiers on your wax?
No. We filter our cappings wax using only clean water, gentle heat, and fine mechanical mesh to remove hive debris. We do not use hydrogen peroxide, sulphuric acid, or chemical bleaching agents.
Does beeswax expire or go bad?
Beeswax is an exceptionally stable natural material with a virtually indefinite shelf life when stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. In cool temperatures, it may develop a pale frosted film on the surface called "bloom", which is harmless and can be buffed off with a soft cloth.
