As we extract honey from fresh combs during each harvest, the natural beeswax cappings are carefully collected, filtered, and hand-poured into candles. We add no synthetic perfumes, dyes, or paraffin.

From Hive to Home: Handcrafted in Warwickshire
Our candles are made using wax cappings collected during each honey harvest at our Warwickshire farm. After the wax is filtered, we pour each candle by hand and fit it with a braided cotton wick. We use 100% pure British beeswax, with no paraffin or other waxes blended in.
Why Choose Pure Beeswax?
A natural choice for everyday home lighting:
- Cleaner Burn: Formulated from pure beeswax with no added paraffin. When the wick is kept trimmed, it burns with minimal soot and a steady flame.
- Unfragranced & Gentle: Completely free from synthetic fragrance oils and chemical dyes, making our candles well-suited to households that prefer unperfumed products.
- Warm Golden Light: Produces a cosy, amber ambient flame that creates an inviting atmosphere.
- Natural Scent: Free from added perfumes; carries only the subtle, delicate aroma of natural hive wax.
- Renewable Hive Material: A natural byproduct harvested from our own colonies alongside our British honey.
Natural Colour & Beeswax Bloom
Every Honeyfields candle is individually crafted by hand from raw hive wax:
- Natural Variation: Subtle colour shifts and surface variations occur naturally, reflecting seasonal wildflower forage and artisanal hand-pouring.
- Understanding "Bloom": Over time in cooler temperatures, pure beeswax naturally develops a soft, pale film on the surface known as bloom. This is a common, harmless characteristic of natural beeswax as natural oils migrate to the exterior.
- Restoring the Shine: Bloom does not affect how the candle burns. You can leave it for a rustic finish, or gently buff it away with a soft, warm cloth to restore its golden lustre.
Candle Care & Burn Guidance
Braided Cotton Wicks & Burn Tips
Simple habits to ensure an even burn and prevent tunnelling:
- Lead-Free Braided Cotton: Fitted with 100% natural braided cotton wicks sized to suit each candle's diameter for a steady flame.
- The Crucial First Burn: Allow your pillar to burn until the melted wax pool reaches close to the outer edge (roughly 1 hour per 2.5 cm / inch of candle diameter).
- Trim the Wick: Keep the braided wick trimmed to 5–6 mm before each lighting to maintain a stable flame with little smoke.
- "Hug" Your Pillars: While the wax rim remains warm and pliable after extinguishing, gently press the top outer edges inwards so the wax burns evenly next time.
- Burn Safely: Always burn on a heat-resistant surface away from draughts, children, and pets, and never leave an open flame unattended.
Repurposing Our Harvest Cappings
Crafted directly from our Warwickshire apiaries:
- Putting Cappings to Use: Fresh wax cappings are a natural secondary product of our honey harvesting, allowing us to put this precious hive material to practical use.
- Slow, Steady Burn: Beeswax is a dense wax with a high melting point, allowing it to burn slowly and provide long-lasting value per candle.
- Pure British Sourcing: 100% hive wax from our own managed colonies—never cut with bulk imported waxes or artificial chemical hardeners.
Frequently Asked Questions About Beeswax Candles
Find quick answers regarding burn times, natural scent, and caring for pure beeswax:
Why do beeswax candles cost more than paraffin candles?
Honey bees consume substantial honey reserves to produce wax comb, with colonies commonly estimated to consume roughly 6 to 8 pounds of honey to secrete a single pound of wax. Collecting and filtering capping wax by hand is a labour-intensive seasonal process. Because beeswax is dense with a high melting point, it burns slowly, offering extended burning time per candle.
Do beeswax candles smell of honey?
Subtly. Our candles contain zero artificial fragrance oils or synthetic perfumes. They carry a faint, natural honey-wax aroma that comes entirely from the wax comb itself—gentle enough for everyday burning without overpowering a room.
Why does beeswax burn with minimal soot?
Pure beeswax is an unadulterated hive material containing no petroleum or synthetic additives. When burned away from draughts with the braided cotton wick trimmed to 5–6 mm, it produces very little smoke or soot.
What is the white powdery film on my beeswax candle?
That pale film is called "bloom". It is a natural characteristic of pure beeswax that occurs when natural oils rise to the surface, particularly following temperature changes. It is completely harmless and does not affect the candle's burn. You can burn the candle as it is, or buff it away with a soft cloth.
How do I prevent my beeswax pillar candle from tunnelling?
Tunnelling occurs when the wick burns a narrow hole down the centre leaving unused wax at the sides. To prevent this, let the initial burn continue until the liquid wax pool reaches near the outer edge (roughly one hour per 2.5 cm / inch of diameter). After putting the flame out, gently press the pliable top edges inward so the wax is consumed evenly on future burns.
Why do your beeswax candles vary in colour?
Our candles contain no added dyes or bleaching agents. Their shade varies naturally depending on the seasonal nectar and wildflower pollen gathered by our bees across Warwickshire and Leicestershire. Early-season wax is typically lighter, while summer forage creates a deeper golden tone.
