Established, high-strength colonies that have successfully overwintered, headed by a 2026 imported Buckfast queen (mated and marked white). Renowned for exceptional spring build-up and docile temperament, these colonies arrive brimming with bees and ready for immediate transfer into a full-sized brood box. A well-managed overwintered colony builds quickly enough to yield a spring honey crop, with excellent potential for a summer crop as well (dependent on weather, forage, and ongoing colony management).

The 6-Frame Advantage: This 6-frame nucleus provides an extra frame of brood and stores compared to our standard 5-frame nucleus, expanding into a full 10- or 11-frame National brood box significantly faster.

Colony Specifications

  • Frames: 6 British Standard National DN4 frames.
  • Queen: Vigorous, laying 2026 imported Buckfast queen (marked white).
  • Brood & Stores: Healthy brood across all developmental stages (eggs, larvae, and sealed brood) accompanied by generous honey and pollen stores.
  • Included Travel Box: Supplied in a heavy-duty, reusable polystyrene nuc box (yours to keep). Please transfer the colony into your full-size hive promptly after collection to avoid congestion.

Colony Health & Wintering

Wintered in insulated polystyrene nuc boxes for superior thermal control. Treated in autumn with approved veterinary varroa controls, and fully inspected prior to handover following National Bee Unit (NBU) standards.

Collection Logistics

Collection only by appointment from Honeyfields Bee Farm (Mile Tree Lane, Aldermans Green, Coventry, CV2 1NT). To safeguard colony welfare, live bees are never couriered or posted.

If we are unable to reach you, your order moves to the bottom of the allocation list. If contact cannot be established after 14 days, the order may be cancelled and your booking deposit forfeited.

Each nuc will have a laying queen, three to four frames of brood in different stages (eggs, larvae and sealed brood) with at least one frame of food. Along with our honey production colonies all overwintered nucs are treated for varroa during the Autumn using approved treatments, keeping colonies strong and healthy for you to collect in the spring. Our nucs are perfect for all levels of experience whether you're a 'newbee' taking on your first hive or a commercial beekeeper wanting to expand.
