Imported 2024 Carniolan queen bee, mated and marked accordingly for the year. Bulk discounts automatically applied, see below.

The Carniolan Honey bee is a subspecies of the Western Honey bee. Native to slovenia and the southern Austrian Alps. Considered to be a gentle and nonaggressive bee to work with but also having a good ability to defend the colony from pests. They are said to have a very good sense of orientation with less drifting from one hive to another. Less prone to robbing and are able to winter in smaller sized colonies conserving stores making them better adapted for areas with longer winters. They are fast to build up in the spring and work extremely well in areas with a strong spring nectar flow with early pollen. The Carniolan bee which is adapted for life in the mountains will work at lower temperatures therefore allowing them to fly earlier and later in the day.

All of our imported Buckfast queen bees are imported from an EU breeder who we have been working with for many years. All imports are pre notified through the UK Governments IPAFFS system and arrive accompanied with a health certificate, which is inspected along with the queens on arrival by the NBU.

Queen came well packaged, but the queen seemed to struggle while walking around the cage, the queen was introduced into the colony while still in the cage, the colony seemed to accept her, a few days later she was released, I left them for 10 days, did an inspection, no eggs laid, queen wasn’t moving very fast along the frame, she looked unstable on her legs, a week later she had died, I’ve been keeping bees for 8 years, I’ve never had a queen die on me when introducing to a new colony
